81 Years Old Gorkha Man Severely Injured In Kalimpong Unrest Badly Beaten Up By Police
An 81 Years Old Resident Of Topkhana In Kalimpong, Sustained Severe Injuries During The Kalimpong Unrest.
Padam Bahadur Pradhan, Who Is An Ardent Supporter Of Gorkhaland, Was Attending A Rally Held In Kalimpong On Wednesday When Suddenly Violence Broke Out And He Became A Victim Of The Police Lathi Amidst The Chaos. Padam Bahadur Has Two Sons Who Work Outside The Hills And Thus Being The Only Man At His Home, He Would Attend Most Of The Rallies Himself. He Never Had In His Mind That Such An Incident Would Take Place As Till The Day, All The Rallies In Kalimpong Had Followed More Or Less A Peaceful Course.
Unaware Of What How Things Would Unfold, Padam Bahadur Went On To Attend The Rally As He Always Would. He Didn’t Realise When And How The Things Took A Violent Turn And Even Before He Could Frame The Scene Properly In His Mind When The Entire Town Got Into Violence. The Situation Became Tensed Serious And There Were Tear And Firings Going Around. The Old Man Still Tried To Gather His Senses And Move To A Safer Place.
This Was When His Nepali Topi Attracted The Police People, Who Directly Took Him To Be A Miscreant. His Shape And Age Didn’t Matter To Them And He Was Blindly Lathi Charged. The Attack Was So Severe That Padam Bahadur Had To Get 7 Stitches On His Head And His Face Is Still Shadowed By Bruises. He Is Presently In A Hospital And The Doctor Has Advised Him To Get A CT Scan Done So That He Could Be Treated Further Based On The Report.
An 81 Years Old Person Can Barely Carry An Umbrella And Walk, Forget About Carrying Weapon And Running Around Spreading Violence. His Wrinkled Face Clearly Says That He Indeed Deserved Some Respect And Compassion Before He Was Subjected To Physical Violence. It Is Doubtful Even To Think That He Could Even Run Or Protect Himself When He Was Being Hit.
We Are Deeply Hurt And Depressed To Know Whatever Padam Bahadur Had To Go Through. We Wish Him Speed Recovery And Good Health.
